‘Butterfly’ Cast Talks Finale Shocker and Hopes for Season 2
Prime Video’s Butterfly wrapped its first season with a major cliffhanger — and the cast is already teasing what could be next if the spy thriller returns.
The series follows David Jung (Daniel Dae Kim), a former spy who faked his death, as he comes back to save his estranged daughter Rebecca (Reina Hardesty) from his dangerous ex-partner Juno (Piper Perabo). The season finale saw alliances shift, betrayals unfold, and an ending that left fans with more questions than answers.
By the end, Oliver (Louis Landau) turns against his mother Juno, forcing her to escape on a private jet. David and Rebecca seem ready to move forward as a family with David’s wife Eunju (Kim Tae-hee) and their young daughter Minhee — until Eunju is found stabbed in a restaurant bathroom, and Rebecca vanishes.
Eunju’s Fate Is Still a Mystery
Kim Tae-hee says she doesn’t know if Eunju survives but hopes she gets more action scenes if she returns. She believes Eunju supported David’s risky mission because she knows she can’t stop him. “Eunju is courageous and gives him the space to do what he needs to do,” she explained.
David and Rebecca Still Have Trust Issues
Daniel Dae Kim admits David isn’t ready to fully trust Rebecca yet, even after everything. “I think David is trying to win her trust, but he’s not 100% trusting her either,” he said. Still, he agrees with Juno’s view that David is idealistic — something others might see as naive.
Juno’s Complicated Family Ties
Piper Perabo believes Juno’s love for Rebecca and Oliver is real, even if she’s manipulative. “Sometimes she surprises herself by being sincere,” Perabo said. Hardesty agrees Rebecca truly cares for Juno, explaining that her character spent years craving Juno’s approval.
Where Juno Might Be Headed
At the end of the finale, Juno’s priorities are clear: finding a safe haven away from U.S. authorities and figuring out how to help Oliver. Perabo admits those goals won’t be easy to achieve.
Season 2 Possibilities
If renewed, Daniel Dae Kim says the attack on Eunju and Rebecca’s disappearance will cause “serious soul searching” and even personality changes for some characters. He also hopes to take the story beyond Korea, exploring new global settings.
Hardesty wants Rebecca to finally decide what she wants, rather than living to please David or Juno. For Perabo, Season 2 would be the perfect time to explore more of Juno and David’s history and unusual chemistry.
The fate of Butterfly Season 2 is still unknown, but with so many unanswered questions, fans are hoping this high-stakes spy story is far from over.
