Bugonia Trailer: Emma Stone Kidnapped By Alien Conspiracy Theorists

Emma Stone is back with Yorgos Lanthimos, and if you’ve followed this duo, you already know they never do normal. Bugonia is their latest strange ride together, and the first trailer is exactly what you’d hope for if you like your sci-fi with a big dose of weird comedy.

The story is a remake of the Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet. This time, Emma Stone steps in as a corporate powerhouse who gets kidnapped by two conspiracy nuts convinced she’s not from this world. They believe she’s an alien CEO here to wipe out Earth.

Jesse Plemons joins her for this dark comedy madness. If you know his style, you can almost picture the deadpan lines and awkward tension already. The trailer hint at duct tape, a grim basement and the classic Lanthimos mix of dry humor and offbeat tension.

Who’s Making ‘Bugonia’ Such A Big Deal?

The whole setup feels very Lanthimos. He’s working with the same core team that brought us Poor Things and The Favourite. Emma isn’t just acting this time either. She’s producing it through her Fruit Tree company. Lanthimos has his Pith shingles banner on it too.

Producers like Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe are on board again from Element Pictures. Ari Aster, who gave us Hereditary and Midsommar, is producing through Square Peg, so expect the vibe to get unsettling and funny in equal parts.

The rest of the behind-the-scenes crew is full of familiar names if you watch Lanthimos films. Yorgos Mavropsaridis edits. Robbie Ryan handles the camera. James Price builds the weird sets. Jerskin Fendrix does the music. Johnnie Burn mixes up the sound. And Jennifer Venditti casts the people who fit so perfectly in Lanthimos’ odd worlds.

Add Alicia Silverstone and Stavros Halkias in supporting parts, and you get a cast ready to pull off the strange.

When Can You Watch ‘Bugonia’?

Focus Features plans a special limited run in select theaters starting October 24. Then it rolls out wider on Halloween, which feels like the perfect time to watch Stone get kidnapped by people with alien theories and no filter.

Peter Kujawski at Focus says Lanthimos is a “cinematic visionary,” and after Poor Things and The Favourite, most movie nerds agree. And this time he’s diving into a Korean cult classic that already had wild energy.

The trailer leaves you with more questions than answers. Why is Emma Stone tied to a chair? Are the conspiracy guys right or just insane? And what does it say about power, paranoia and the line between truth and delusion?

One thing’s clear. With Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos, nothing is ever boring.
