Bill Hader’s New Cat in the Hat Movie Drops First Trailer with Wild Twist
The Cat is back — and he’s weirder than ever. Bill Hader’s version of the Cat in the Hat is about to cause chaos in ways Dr. Seuss never dreamed up. Warner Bros. just dropped the first trailer for The Cat in the Hat and it’s clear right away this is not the same Cat we’ve seen before.
Hader teased this for ages. He joked that he bribed “officially-looking officials” just to get the footage out. He’s been sitting on this project for years. People have been waiting since the first word dropped back in 2018. Now it’s real.
How Different Is Bill Hader’s Cat?
This Cat doesn’t just pop into a normal rainy day with a box of tricks. Hader said they built an “expansive new universe.” So, instead of staying in one boring house like the old story, the Cat now jumps through unique worlds, each with its own animation style.
That alone would make any Seuss fan lean forward. But it gets better — or weirder. This Cat gets pepper-sprayed. He uses a flip phone. He’s more chaotic than polite. Hader’s voice brings the same unhinged energy you’d expect from the SNL star.
Who Else Is Joining This Seuss Adventure?
Hader’s not the only big name. The voice cast is packed. Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, America Ferrera, Xochitl Gomez, Tituss Burgess, Matt Berry, Tiago Martinez, Paula Pell, and Giancarlo Esposito all signed up for the ride.
That cast alone screams comedy gold. Imagine Bowen Yang and Quinta Brunson bouncing off Hader’s Cat. It’s no surprise the studio is calling this a “Seussiverse.” They want this Cat to open doors for more Dr. Seuss stories.
What’s The New Story About?
So what’s our troublemaker up to this time? He’s got a mission. An official one, too — working for the I.I.I.I. (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC). The Cat’s job is to cheer up siblings Gabby and Sebastian. They’re having a rough time adjusting to a new town.
Classic Cat style, he’s probably going to turn their house — and maybe the whole town — upside down. The trailer hints that this time, the Cat’s got to be careful not to lose his magical hat. No hat means no magic. No magic means no Cat.
So, expect chaos, but maybe with a pinch more at stake than usual.
Why Are Fans So Excited?
For older fans, Mike Myers’ live-action Cat from 2003 is hard to forget. Love it or hate it, that movie made an impression. Before that, the Cat showed up in books, cartoons, and that catchy PBS Kids show voiced by Martin Short.
Hader’s Cat might be the first that goes big in animation since then. Plus, with a new universe and bold animation styles, the vibe feels different from the classic Cat balancing fish bowls on rainy days.
At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. called this film the “doorway” into their Seussiverse. So if the Cat makes a splash, more characters could follow. Green Eggs and Ham? Horton? The Lorax? The possibilities are wide open.
For now, the Cat has his work cut out. If you see a pepper spray can and an old flip phone lying around, don’t be surprised — the Cat probably left them there on purpose. Bill Hader’s chaos magic is officially loose. And Dr. Seuss fans are ready for it.
