American Idol Top 5 Revealed After Emotional Disney Night and Mother’s Day Tributes
American Idol just gave fans one of the most heartfelt episodes of the season. Episode 16 was a double dose of emotions, big performances, and of course, plenty of Disney magic.
With the competition now down to just five singers, it’s clear we’re getting close to the finish line. But before we get there, let’s take a look at all the standout moments, the surprise eliminations, and the five singers still chasing the crown.
Disney Night Returns with an Extra Twist
Disney Night is nothing new for Idol, but this year, they gave it the red carpet treatment. The show brought in none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda to help coach the Top 7 contestants through their performances. Each singer tackled a song from the Disney and Pixar vault, and the results were equal parts magical and emotional.
Whether it was the iconic melodies or the childhood nostalgia, Disney Night once again gave the contestants a chance to connect with fans on a different level.
Carrie Underwood and a Mother’s Day Full of Tears
As if singing Disney songs wasn’t enough, the second half of the episode leaned into full-on emotion. Carrie Underwood showed up dressed like she just stepped out of Alice in Wonderland and clearly had a hard time holding back tears as the contestants took the stage for Mother’s Day tributes.
This section of the night brought out a new level of vulnerability in the performances.
Breanna Nix nearly broke down while singing Lauren Alaina’s “Like My Mother Does”. She struggled to push through the tears, but the raw emotion made the moment unforgettable.
Then came Thunderstorm Artis, who sang an original song for his wife, Faith, titled “Out of the Blue.” As he sang about her green eyes and their love story, she stood in the audience with their sons, visibly emotional. It was easily one of the night’s most memorable performances.
Ryan Seacrest Has a Moment of His Own
In a rare personal moment, host Ryan Seacrest gave fans a laugh with a little vulnerability of his own. After hearing Thunderstorm’s heartfelt lyrics, he joked,
“I’ve never been more depressed to be single than in this moment.”
And honestly, same, Ryan.
Who Went Home on ‘American Idol’?
After a long journey, two contestants said goodbye.
- Mattie Pruitt, the youngest singer in the competition, was eliminated.
- Gabby Samone, the powerful voice from Baltimore, also left the show.
Both singers had memorable runs and gained loyal followings, but the fan vote was tough this week, and there just wasn’t room for everyone.
