Anna Faris and Regina Hall Returning for Scary Movie Reboot With Wayans Brothers

Horror parody fans, get ready — Scary Movie is officially making a comeback. Anna Faris and Regina Hall are set to reprise their iconic roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks in the upcoming reboot, which will be written and produced by the Wayans Brothers for the first time in nearly two decades. The film is slated to hit theaters on June 12, 2026.

Brenda and Cindy Are Back

In a joint statement, Faris and Hall expressed their excitement about returning to the franchise that made them comedy legends. “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again),” they said, according to Variety.

The pair’s chemistry defined much of the first two films, and their return promises to bring back the over-the-top humor and outrageous antics that fans loved.

The Wayans Brothers Reunite

This reboot marks the first time in 18 years that Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans are reuniting to work on Scary Movie. Keenen, who wrote and directed the original 2000 hit and its 2001 sequel, is back alongside Shawn and Marlon, who both wrote and starred in the earlier films.

The brothers will co-write and produce the new film with longtime collaborator Rick Alvarez. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thomas Zadra are on board as executive producers.

A Franchise That Defined Parody

The original Scary Movie was released in 2000 and became a cultural phenomenon, grossing over $278 million worldwide. Known for spoofing popular horror hits like Scream, The Blair Witch Project, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, it helped revive the parody film genre for a new generation.

The franchise eventually spawned five films, though the Wayans Brothers stepped away after the second installment. The upcoming reboot will be the sixth entry and their long-awaited return to the series.

A Fresh Start With Familiar Faces

Miramax is producing the film, which Paramount Pictures will release worldwide. The reboot is part of Paramount’s first-look deal with Miramax, signaling that the studio is betting big on reviving a classic comedy brand.

Marlon Wayans has been vocal about past struggles with the series, pointing to disputes with former producers. Earlier this year, he told Variety, “The way the Weinsteins handled the business of Scary Movie, I could write a Scary Movie about it. We probably should have sued.”

What Fans Can Expect

With the Wayans Brothers back at the helm, fans can expect a return to the franchise’s original chaotic energy — sharp parodies of horror tropes mixed with slapstick and cultural satire. Bringing back Anna Faris and Regina Hall ensures the reboot will have the same heart (and ridiculousness) that made the first two films so beloved.

As the countdown begins for its 2026 release, the reboot is shaping up to be both a nostalgic trip for longtime fans and a fresh start for new audiences.
