Prince William and Kate Move Into Forest Lodge, Their New Forever Home

Prince William and Princess Kate are preparing for a major move. The couple, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, will soon settle into Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom residence in Windsor Great Park that they plan to make their “forever home.”

A Fresh Start After Difficult Years

According to The Sun, the move is being seen as a way for the family to turn the page after three difficult years at Adelaide Cottage. Their time there was marked by the passing of Queen Elizabeth in 2022, followed by the cancer diagnoses of both King Charles and Princess Kate.

A source explained, “Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.”

Forest Lodge, with its sweeping park views and quiet location, will now serve as the permanent base for the Wales family, even after William eventually becomes King.

No Live-In Staff

Unlike many royal residences, Forest Lodge will not include live-in staff. The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly funding the move and all renovations privately, avoiding any use of taxpayer money. This approach contrasts with the controversy surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which initially relied on public funds before being repaid.

Planning documents submitted in June indicate that internal and external updates are already underway. Despite the renovation work, Forest Lodge will preserve much of its historic character, including vaulted ceilings, marble fireplaces, stonework, and ornate plaster cornices.

The Value of Forest Lodge

The Grade II-listed property has a long history, dating back 328 years. Its last major renovation occurred in 2001, costing £1.5 million. At that time, it was valued at £5.5 million. Today, estimates suggest Forest Lodge could be worth around £16 million if placed on the open market. The freehold remains under the ownership of King Charles.

Looking Toward the Future

For William and Kate, this move is about more than just a new house. Forest Lodge is intended to be a lasting family home where their children can grow up away from the intense spotlight, while still remaining close to Windsor Castle and London. The property’s size and privacy offer them the chance to balance royal duty with family life.

As William prepares for his future role as King, settling at Forest Lodge also sends a message of stability and continuity. By choosing to cover costs privately and forgoing live-in staff, the couple are showing their intent to modernize royal traditions while keeping their family life as grounded as possible.

For now, Forest Lodge represents both a personal refuge and a symbol of resilience after years of challenges.
