Kendrick Lamar Breaks Chart Record With SZA Hit ‘Luther’

Kendrick Lamar keeps doing what Kendrick does best — breaking records and setting the bar even higher. His latest big moment? “Luther,” his hit with SZA, just made history on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

This isn’t just another number one. “Luther” has now held the top spot for 27 weeks straight. That’s longer than any other song since the chart started back in 1989. Funny enough, Kendrick beat himself this time. His last record-holder, “Not Like Us,” held on for 26 weeks.

When you look at the bigger picture, it’s even wilder. “Luther” also sat at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks in a row. No easy feat when the competition is fierce every week.

How Big Has ‘Luther’ Made GNX?

“Luther” isn’t just a single hit. It’s the crown jewel of Kendrick’s album GNX — which is doing its own damage on the charts. GNX has been the number one rap album in the US for 22 weeks now. That’s longer than Pop Smoke’s posthumous Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, which held on for 21 weeks.

Fans are still spinning it, streaming it, and buying tickets to see it live. And that’s where Kendrick and SZA are smashing records all over again. Their Grand National tour is now the highest grossing co-headlining tour ever.

In just 23 shows across North America, they’ve made more than $256 million. On average, each show pulls in $11.1 million and fills seats for about 48,000 fans every night.

What Did SZA Say About Touring With Kendrick?

For SZA, this whole run has been huge. But she’s been honest about how tough it’s been too. On stage in Maryland, she got emotional thanking Kendrick for putting her on this ride. She said, “He put me onto the biggest moment of my life. This is also the biggest moment of my life… I’m so thankful, and I’m so thankful to y’all.”

They hugged it out in front of thousands, showing everyone how real their bond is.

SZA’s talked before about how hard it is to show up sometimes. She told Chappell Roan she’s had panic attacks before going on stage or walking red carpets. She worried people only came to see Kendrick, not her.

But every packed arena, every fan screaming her name, and every hug with Kendrick says she’s more than earned her place. Together, they’re rewriting rap history — and they’re doing it on their own terms.
