I PREVAIL Announces Departure of Vocalist Brian Burkheiser After 10 Years
Rock fans were hit with emotional news today as platinum-certified band I PREVAIL officially announced the departure of founding member and clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser. After a decade of making powerful music together, the band and Burkheiser are parting ways on mutual terms.
Burkheiser has been with I PREVAIL since the beginning and played a key role in shaping the band’s emotional and melodic vocal style. However, his ongoing battle with Eagle’s syndrome, a rare condition that causes severe throat and neck pain, had already forced him to step away from touring in recent years. In his absence, co-vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe and guitarist Dylan Bowman stepped in to cover vocals during live performances.
The band released a statement on May 15 via social media:
“To our I PREVAIL family: Today we share that we are mutually parting ways with Brian Burkheiser. This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right one and we are all grateful for the 10 epic years we shared together. We wish Brian nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
Eric and Dylan Will Lead Vocals Moving Forward
While fans are saddened by the departure, I PREVAIL made it clear that the band will carry on with full energy. Eric Vanlerberghe will now take over as the full-time frontman, backed by Dylan Bowman, who has already filled in during several live shows.
The band reassured fans that nothing is changing when it comes to the music and live experience:
“Rest assured, we will continue to deliver the high-energy shows that we’ve made a pillar of our band, and we will continue to perform all the bangers from our catalogue. All scheduled shows will go on exactly as planned. New music coming soon… See you out there.”
This marks a new chapter for the Michigan-based rockers who rose to fame with their raw lyrics, intense performances, and genre-blending sound.
A Look Back at Brian Burkheiser’s Impact on I PREVAIL
Brian Burkheiser played a huge role in I PREVAIL’s success. From their breakout cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” to the Grammy-nominated album Trauma, Burkheiser’s vocals brought heart and depth to the band’s mix of hard rock and metalcore.
His voice became a signature part of hit songs like “Hurricane,” which topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2020, and “Breaking Down,” which reflected his own struggles with mental health. Many fans credit Burkheiser’s honesty and vulnerability for helping them through dark times.
Even as he battled health issues behind the scenes, Burkheiser stayed involved in recording and writing. But Eagle’s syndrome eventually made it too painful for him to keep performing on tour.
The band’s latest album True Power dropped in 2022 and included hit tracks like “Bad Things” and “Deep End.” Last October, I PREVAIL released an expanded edition of True Power with reimagined versions of fan favorites and a new track, “Hate This Song.”
I PREVAIL has been recognized by major media outlets such as Billboard, NPR, Forbes, and The Hollywood Reporter, and their influence in the rock scene continues to grow. With two Grammy nominations under their belt and multiple gold and platinum singles, the band has solidified its place as one of the biggest names in modern rock.
As fans process the departure of Brian Burkheiser, one thing is certain: his legacy within I PREVAIL is secure. His voice helped build something powerful, and the band’s future still looks strong with Eric and Dylan carrying the torch.
The next era of I PREVAIL begins now.
