Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have officially introduced the newest (and furriest) member of their household—just in time for National Puppy Day. The couple shared an emotional video montage on March 23 via the Instagram of their pet supplies brand, Kismet, which they launched in 2024. In it, fans got their first real look at Dudley, the sweet rescue pup who overcame the odds—and is now thriving in the arms of a family full of love.
But Dudley’s story isn’t just heartwarming—it’s also a symbol of healing, following a heartbreaking goodbye the family recently experienced.
Is Dudley helping the family cope after Penny’s passing?
Before Dudley, Chrissy and John were mourning the loss of Penny, their beloved three-legged French bulldog. Penny had been part of the family for over a decade—born the very same day the couple tied the knot. Chrissy shared the news on social media in January, referring to Penny as their “tripod queen” and reflecting on the deep love they shared: “For them, you are their entire book, their entire lives,” she wrote.
Enter Dudley—a pup who, at first, was barely holding on. He was rescued just after the Los Angeles wildfires broke out and was battling severe pneumonia. He spent 13 days in the hospital, fighting for his life. The Wags & Walks rescue team worked around the clock to stabilize him.
And then—just when he needed it most—Chrissy and John found him.
“We are in love”—Dudley’s new life begins
“When we first met Dudley, he was fighting for his life,” the couple shared in their Kismet post. “Thirteen days in the hospital, endless love from his foster family and an incredible recovery later — he’s officially home.”
Now, Dudley is soaking in the love from the whole family. In the adoption announcement video, fans saw him snuggled up under cozy blankets, and being held by Luna, 8, and Miles, 6. (The couple’s youngest children, Esti and Wren—both born in 2023—complete their busy household.)
Despite his rocky start, Dudley appears relaxed, safe, and fully at ease in his new environment. The soft blankets, baby giggles, and endless cuddles might just be the best medicine for a pup who once fought to survive.
A rescue with purpose—and perfect timing
This adoption also comes full circle for Chrissy and John. Not only did they welcome Dudley during a season of loss, but they did so through their own pet-focused company, Kismet—a brand they created to support happier, healthier pet lives.
