Group of Teens Asked to Leave Park Despite Doing Nothing Wrong, Video Goes Viral

A recent video making rounds on social media has sparked outrage after a group of teens was told they had to leave a public park simply because other people felt uncomfortable around them.

The clip, originally posted by yourfavoriteboymom on TikTok and reshared by Youngniggapromotions on Facebook, has thousands of people talking about whether this kind of treatment toward young people has gone too far.

The short video does not show the full picture of what happened before the camera started rolling, but what it does capture is enough to get people fired up.

A woman steps in and appears to speak with the teens after the situation had already been unfolding. One of the teens responds with a polite “thank you ma’am” suggesting the interaction had already been going on before the recording began.

A Public Park Belongs to Everyone

Public parks are shared spaces. They are funded by taxpayers and meant to be used by everyone in the community, including teenagers who just want to hang out with their friends.

The idea that a group of teens simply sitting in a park could make someone so uncomfortable that they feel the need to call and have them removed raises serious questions about bias and how young people, particularly teens of color, are perceived in public spaces.

Sunshine Gray made it plain in the comments saying that if the other people at the park were uncomfortable, they were the ones who should leave.

It is a point that many people agreed with because the teens were not described as being loud, threatening or causing any kind of disturbance. They were simply there.

Era Esme echoed that sentiment pointing out that teens hanging around in parks is nothing new and that they should be allowed to just be teenagers without being treated like a threat.

Bystander Steps In But Did She Do Enough

The woman seen in the video did engage with the teens and some viewers appreciated that she at least said something. Amesheia Wilbourn noted that the “thank you ma’am” from one of the teens suggests the woman may have actually helped them in some way and that viewers are only seeing a small portion of what happened.

However, not everyone felt she went far enough. Allegedly Ryan drew a clear line between speaking and speaking up, pointing out that there is a real difference between the two and that simply having a conversation is not the same as truly advocating for someone.

Ken Kenn took a more direct approach with his response, urging parents to teach their children their rights and to understand they do not have to engage with police when they have done nothing wrong.

Samantha Mark Velez summed up what many were feeling by questioning why anyone would bother a group of teens who were doing nothing more than spending time together.
