3 Found Dead After Shooting Near Lanark Baseball Field in Canoga Park

Three people are dead following a shooting in the Canoga Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday evening, according to fire and law enforcement officials.

The shooting took place in the 8000 block of Owensmouth Avenue shortly before 7:20 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said, though authorities have not yet released any information about the identities of those killed or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Aerial footage from NewsChopper4 and AIR7 captured a heavy law enforcement presence at the location, with multiple LAFD and police vehicles stationed throughout the area.

Officers established a perimeter using police tape near the Lanark baseball field and an adjacent apartment complex, where a crowd of onlookers had gathered to watch the unfolding scene from outside the blocked-off zone.

The scale of the response indicated the severity of the situation, with emergency crews and investigators working the scene throughout the evening hours. Residents in the surrounding neighborhood were left shaken as authorities worked to piece together what led to the deadly incident.

Investigation Ongoing as Authorities Work to Establish Motive and Suspect Information

As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been reported in connection with the shooting, and no suspect information was immediately made available to the public. The Los Angeles Police Department had not released details about a possible motive or whether the victims were targeted or caught in the crossfire of a broader confrontation.

The Canoga Park neighborhood, located in the western San Fernando Valley, has seen a number of violent incidents over the past several years. The area around Lanark Park, a well-known community space featuring baseball fields and recreational facilities, is frequented by families and residents on weekends, making Sunday evening’s events particularly alarming for the local community.

Investigators were expected to remain at the scene for several hours as they gathered evidence and spoke with any available witnesses.

The medical examiner was also called to the location to begin the process of identifying the deceased and determining the official cause of death for each of the three victims.

Neighbors in the area expressed shock over what unfolded so close to a space typically associated with youth sports and outdoor activity. The Lanark baseball fields are regularly used by local leagues and community groups, and the timing of the shooting during the early evening hours of a Sunday meant that many people were in and around the area when it occurred.

The shooting marked another violent episode in a neighborhood that has faced recurring public safety concerns. Local officials and community advocates have previously called for increased resources and intervention programs aimed at reducing gun violence in parts of the San Fernando Valley.

LAPD and LAFD officials urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact authorities. Investigators are actively seeking witnesses who may have seen or heard anything in the moments leading up to or immediately following the gunfire.

This remains a developing story, and additional details about the victims, a possible suspect, and the motive behind the shooting are expected to be released as the investigation continues to move forward.
